14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung is still conducting the global recall of its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 7. However, rumors on the upcoming flagship from Samsung have already started to surface online. A patent application recently filed in South Korea hints at a dual-camera setup on the Galaxy S8.
The patent application was filed on September 13 and shows a camera interface with improved zoom control, according to Galaxy Club via SamMobile. It reveals that zooming in the camera app can be done using a one-finger gesture, just like with the one-finger exposure control feature that the company uses in its camera application.
Zoom can also be assigned to the volume keys or controlled by a pinch-to-zoom gesture. Some of these features are already found in the camera app on many Samsung smartphones so the reason the company intends to improve camera control on its smartphones might be connected to the fact that it may implement a dual-camera setup on the upcoming Galaxy S8.
The Galaxy S8 could feature a 4,200mAh battery
A dual-camera setup offers improved tools for enhancing zoom capabilities on a smartphone, compared to regular back cameras. Still, this is just speculation at this point, patent applications don't necessarily mean that these concept features will arrive on the Galaxy S8.
Nevertheless, specs of the Galaxy S8 recently leaked, but they should be taken with a grain of salt as well. The Galaxy S8 might come with a 5.2-inch 4k display with 4096 x 2160 pixel resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top.
It could also run an octa-core 3.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and have 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of internal memory. Battery capacity could reach 4,200mAh, while the rear camera capacity was rumored to reach 30MP, with 9MP in the front. Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S8 with dual-curved display during the first or second month of 2017.
