Samsung started the new year with a launch, albeit the new products are only new iterations in the low-end range of Galaxy A smartphones. Still, the new smartphones come with significant improvements compared to their predecessors, including IP68 certification.

Samsung was said to launch the new Galaxy A (2017) smartphones on January 5, but it seems that the company decided to introduce them to the world a bit earlier.

The design of the new smartphones follows roughly the same pattern as their predecessors, having a metal and glass body, but a curvier back. In addition, Samsung has decided to make some changes to the speaker grill and relocate it to the right side. Smartphones in the Galaxy A (2017) series will be made available in four colors, Black Sky, Gold Sand, Blue Mist, and Peach Cloud.

One of the biggest improvements brought to the series is the IP68 certification, also found on some of Samsung’s flagships like the Galaxy S7. This would ensure that the smartphones are protected against sand and water. The new phones also come with USB Type-C ports, fast charging, and Always-on Display.

The Galaxy A3 (2017) is the low-end phone in the series, with a 4.7-inch HD Super AMOLED display, a 16GHz octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It also features a 13MP rear camera and 8MP in the front, as well as a 2,350mAh battery and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

The Galaxy A5 (2017) has a much larger full HD Super AMOLED display of 5.2 inches, a 1.9GHz octa-core processor and 3GB of RAM. It comes with 32GB of internal storage and draws power from a 3,000mAh battery with Fast Charging. Rear camera capacity reaches an impressive 16MP, the same as in the front.

The higher-end model in the series, the Galaxy A7 (2017), has the largest display - 5.7 inches - and a 1.9GHz octa-core processor. Moreover, it has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, as well as a 16MP camera with f/1.9 aperture in the front and back. Compared to the Galaxy A5 (2017), the Galaxy A7 (2017) has a much larger battery, 3,600mAh with fast charging.

The phones will be available in Russia in early January

The new Galaxy A smartphones will go on sale in early January in Russia, and starting next month in other countries in Europe. Asian fans might be able to get their hands of the phones by late January. Samsung Malaysia may launch pre-orders on January 6.

The Galaxy A7 (2017) won’t be made available in Europe, while the Galaxy A3 (2017) and Galaxy A5 (2017) could have price tags of €329 and €429 in Europe.
