The Galaxy Note 7 is becoming Samsung’s biggest fiasco in history. The company has just confirmed that it’s pulling the device for the second time, as it needs more time to investigate reports of exploding batteries even on safe units.

In a statement today, Samsung has confirmed that it has halted sales of the Note 7 and is working with carriers to suspend the recall program, suggesting that there’s indeed a big chance that safe units could come with defective batteries as well.

“We are working with relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note7. Because consumers’ safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note7 while the investigation is taking place,” the company said.

Buyers MUST turn off the Note 7

Furthermore, Samsung strongly recommended all Note 7 owners to turn their devices off, no matter if they are old or new models that already got exchanged. The risk of explosion is apparently quite big and Samsung says that not using the phone is the best way to avoid a possible explosion.

“We remain committed to working diligently with appropriate regulatory authorities to take all necessary steps to resolve the situation. Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the remedies available,” it said.

Samsung’s decision comes after a weekend full of explosions that involved units which got exchanged and marked as safe. In the United States, a Note 7 exploded in the hands of a 13-year-old girl, while another unit caused its owner acute bronchitis after he inhaled the smoke emitted by the battery that caught fire. Both these explosions involved models labeled as safe.

For the moment, Samsung hasn’t said anything about a possible second recall, but chances to see this happening are increasing with every minute, especially now that sales are officially suspended. It remains to be seen what happens next, but for your own safety, it’s really a good idea to stop using the Note 7.
