Samsung hasn't yet released the Android 7.0 Nougat update for all the smartphones and tablets it promised earlier this year, and we've got new info that suggests the South Korean company plans to launch a newer version of the OS.

Android 7.1.1 Nougat has already been pushed to all Pixel and Nexus devices, but few other handsets are running the latest version of the operating system. Although that might change in the coming months, it's still unclear when major brands like Samsung plan to deliver this important update.

It's a common fact that Samsung, as well as other handset makers, test new updates on various devices before they are released to the general public.

That's why we've spotted throughout the last couple of months many Samsung smartphones running Android 7.0 Nougat, even though the South Korean company did not release the update.

The Galaxy S8 might be the first to run Android 7.1.1 Nougat

Today, the folks over at TheAndroidSoul spotted at Geekbench another Samsung smartphone powered by the latest version of Android. A certain Galaxy A3 (2016) running Android 7.1.1 Nougat is now listed at Geekbench, which indicates Samsung may prepare another update for many of its smartphones.

Samsung recently kicked off the rollout of the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in Europe, so we doubt the new version of the OS will be released this month.

It's also worth noting that the phone maker has yet to push Nougat updates for the Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy Note 5. Moreover, the 2016 Galaxy A series, comprising various models like the A3, A5, A7, and the A8, is expected to receive the Nougat update as well.

Even if Android 7.1.1 Nougat is not made available to any of Samsung's phones for the next month or so, seeing that the company is already testing the update makes us believe the new version of the OS will eventually make it to the Galaxy smartphones in the not-so-distant future.
