It has been almost two weeks since Samsung announced the global recall of 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 units due to overheating batteries that caused the phone to catch fire. It seems that 70 incidents were reported in the US alone and Samsung intends to launch apology ads.

YonhapNews has just reported that Samsung decided to launch media advertisements to apologize for the ongoing global recall of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones. Reportedly, Samsung's ads will contain the phrase "We apologize for causing discomfort and concern to our customers. All Samsung employees will do our best to resolve problems.” It's still unknown when the company will actually release these ads.

Indeed, Samsung Canada in partnership with Health Canada, the government agency responsible for consumer safety, has already started replacing Galaxy Note 7 devices sold in the country.

Canadians who own Galaxy Note 7 devices can register for a replacement and Samsung will contact them and send safe units. Apparently, Samsung sold 21,953 Galaxy Note 7 devices in Canada between August 19 and September 1, when sales were halted. The company intends to replace each and every one of these units.

Samsung will limit battery charge on Galaxy Note 7 units to 60%

The report also mentions that Samsung might limit battery charge on Galaxy Note 7 devices to only 60% of its capacity by using an OTA update. The measure would prevent smartphones from overheating and catching fire, thus limiting the number of incidents until all Note 7 units are replaced.

Samsung also launched a new webpage that allows users to check their Galaxy Note 7 IMEI number and thus determine if the units are part of the list of affected devices.

The webpage comes as a confirmation that users should replace their phones and it helps those who have already received their replacement to double-check the device. The safe Galaxy Note 7 units will come in a box with a blue S in a white circle.
