Samsung announced its newest flagships, the Galaxy S8 and S8+, during the Unpacked 2017 event yesterday, but the company also prepared a surprise for people in New York City. Samsung set up a number of immersive displays right in Time Square.

The displays illuminated the whole Time Square and provided passers-by with a show marking the arrival of the company’s newest flagship device. In addition, a troupe of performers danced in celebration and the show was filmed from above and broadcast on the screens.

The performers also created a formation that resembled the bezel-less Galaxy S8, while even the displays set up on buildings in Time Square were slightly curved, hinting at the Infinity Display on the new flagship.

The whole show provided details about Samsung’s newest flagship, including the Infinity Display on the 5.8-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED Galaxy S8 and 6.2-inch Galaxy S8+. The smartphones are already up for pre-order in the US and Europe, and they come with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and a 12MP dualpixel autofocus camera and 8MP sensor in the front. On the inside, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 platform.

New intelligent interface Bixby and DeX Station for a desktop experience

Both the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have dual-curved displays and Samsung decided to ditch the physical home button and provide on-screen capacitive buttons for navigation, built directly into the display. Furthermore, the fingerprint sensor was moved to the back of the smartphone, while the additional iris scanner offers users more security features to protect their personal data.

Samsung also introduced its intelligent interface Bixby, which creates a genuine user experience and learns the user’s behavior to predict solutions and actions. Aside from this, Samsung introduced a number of new accessories, including the DeX Station which allows users to connect the phone to a monitor and get a genuine desktop experience for sending emails, replying to messages, and managing data on their phones.
