Samsung is expected to take the wraps off the new Galaxy S8 Active sometime in the coming weeks, but the company has so far been tight-lipped on everything related to this device.

And yet, it looks like the South Koreans have actually leaked the very first details about this new model on their own website, with a document confirming that the new model would be called Samsung Galaxy S8 Active and would be codenamed G892A.

This aligns with the previous-generation Active model, which was launched as part of the Samsung Galaxy S7 lineup and which was model number G891A.

Technical details, however, are not available for the time being, though it’s not hard to figure out what the new Active model is all about.

Similar to the Galaxy S8

As far as technical specifications go, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is very likely to be similar with the standard Galaxy S8 and feature a 5.8-inch AMOLED display.

The bigger difference, however, will be the shape of the screen, as the Active will most likely adopt a flat design for extra durability and to be able to withstand hits and shocks. It goes without saying that the S8 Active will be dust and water-resistant, and there’s a good chance the it will all achieve the MIL STD-810G military standard.

Power is likely to come from the same Exynos 88955 processor paired with 4GB of RAM, while battery will probably be increased as well, though the exact capacity is hard to predict. Rumors seem to be pointing to a 3,500 mAh unit. In the United States, the new Active model could launch with a Snapdragon 835 processor and be sold only by AT&T.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active was rolled out in June last year, so there’s a chance that Samsung is aiming for a similar release date for the new model, which means that the launch could take place as soon as this month.
