Coming late to the party is better than not coming at all

With the introduction of its U24E590D and U28E590D models, Samsung launched its first monitors to support AMD's FreeSync technology, in contradiction with Nvidia's own G-Sync tech.

AMD's freesync synchronizes the monitor's refresh rate to eliminate large jumps in frame time for much smoother multimedia use. Just like G-Sync, AMD's FreeSync is recommended for gamers who will notice an immediate increase in responsiveness without tearing and shuttering.

The U24E590D and U28E590D's UHD display come both with a max resolution of 3840x2160 being full-fledged 4K monitors. Both models use HDMI 2.0, which supports a 60 Hz frequency to view content smoothly, while the 28" has a 1ms response time.

Coming together with Samsung's Game Mode technology, the new monitors will intensify the visual experience by rapid response to changing color and brightness, bringing vivid colors apparently even in darker rooms. The U28E590D monitor also supports 1 billion unique colors being 64 times greater than the conventional monitor.

Cool tools, but are they really unique?

Samsung claims that both monitors will come with tools like Picture-in-Picture tech and Picture-by-Picture feature that will allow users to connect dual PCs on the same monitor. Packing both HDMI and DisplayPorts will allow users to connect multiple connector devices on the same monitor without any issues.

However, all this tech comes quite late from Samsung as Benq's BL series already brought this tech on 30" UHD PIP/PBP monitors since March. Although Benq's monitors are indeed much more expensive, they already went lower than $1000 this spring and are targeting even lower prices until autumn. Samsung indeed won the price race with its U24E590D and U28E590D coming at $399.99 and $599.99 respectively, but Benq's prices are indeed justified by the sheer size and build quality of the monitor.

All in all, Samsung does beat Benq on prices but no much. Dedicated monitors from Benq like XL2730Z $530 which is more expensive than the U24E590D but cheaper than the U28E590D, both equipped with FreeSync. Personal preferences will probably make clients decide on what ultimately is a battle between excellent monitor manufacturers.
