The new Samsung phone has very outdated specs

Despite having said that it had plans to cut down on the number of smartphones released per year, Samsung is still launching an awful number of uninspiring devices.

Take the latest Galaxy V Plus, which was quietly released by the tech giant this week. Albeit the pompous name, the Galaxy V Plus is actually a low-end device that fails to impress even a little bit.

The phone makes a debut with a 4-inch TFT display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution, and takes advantage of a dual-core chipset (unnamed origins, Samsung also skips this part as far as low-end models are concerned) clocked at 1.2GHz.

The processor is paired with a ridiculous 512MB of RAM and 2GB of internal storage, which seems an utter joke. Luckily, the phone has the option of a microSD card that helps expand memory up to 64GB of internal storage.

Samsung also throws in a 3MP main camera on the back plus a 0.3MP selfie shooter, if you don’t mind your snapshots looking all pixelated. The Galaxy V Plus operates on a 1,500 mAh battery and will ship out with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box with TouchWiz plastered on top.

No LTE for this low-range device

The handset doesn’t have LTE connectivity but will offer 3G instead and two SIM cards on board, which indicates that Samsung is aiming the phone at emerging markets, if you had any such doubts.

Actually, for the time being, the handset is offered only in Malaysia, and we don’t really know whether Samsung will be offering it in other markets as well. The Galaxy V Plus can be yours for $82 / €75.

However, you might want to think once or twice before jumping on board with Samsung for the Galaxy V Plus. For example, UK carrier EE is offering the Rook smartphone, which comes boasting better specs for a lesser price.

The Rook has a 4-inch display with 854 x 480 pixel resolution and dons a quad-core processor clocked at 1GHz under the hood. The device is backed up by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card up to 32GB). The phone also takes advantage of a 5MP shooter and 0.3MP selfie camera. Not to mention that the device runs Android 5.1 Lollipop.

So as you can see, you’d be making a better deal with the EE Rook.
