As expected, Samsung has taken the wraps off its new Galaxy A (2016) series, which is comprised of three smartphones: Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, and Galaxy A7. A fourth smartphone that leaked in the last couple of weeks, Galaxy A9, has yet to be announced.

According to Samsung, all three Galaxy A series smartphones will be available for purchase beginning mid-December. However, they will initially be launched in China and will be expanded to global markets in the months to come.

There's no word on prices yet, but judging by the specs, Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016) will be the cheapest of the three.

Nothing out of the ordinary, spec-wise

As previous rumors mentioned, the Galaxy A3 (2016) sports a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution.

The phone comes equipped with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Samsung's affordable Galaxy A series smartphone packs a more-than-decent 13-megapixel camera on the back, as well as a secondary 5-megapixel camera on the front.

The phone will be powered by a 2,300 mAh battery and comes with multiple connectivity options, such as dual-SIM, 4G LTE Cat.4, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC (Near Field Communication), and GPS with AGPS.

Next in line, Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) features a larger 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.

The phone is powered by a 1.6GHz octa-core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory expandable up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Just like the Galaxy A3 (2016), this one packs a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a secondary 5-megapixel camera on the front. The only difference would be the fact that Galaxy A5 (2016) camera features OIS (optical image stabilization) function.

It comes with the same connectivity options except that it offers LTE Cat.6 support and a better 2,900 mAh battery with fast charging technology.

Dual-SIM support is optional and varies by market

Last but not least, the Galaxy A7 (2016) boasts a much larger 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.

It is powered by a similar 1.6GHz octa-core CPU and packs 3GB RAM and 16GB storage, expandable up to 128GB.

On the back, the Galaxy A7 (2016) has a 13-megapixel camera with OIS, while on the front there's a secondary 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. The phone drains energy from a high-capacity 3,300 mAh battery with fast charging.

All three Galaxy A (2016) smartphones run Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box and fully support Samsung Pay service.
