It will compete with Amazon’s Echo, Google Home, etc.

According to a new report from the Wall Street Journal, it would appear that Samsung is currently developing its own smart speaker to be used in people's homes.

Now that Apple unveiled HomePod, a voice-activated speaker powered by Siri, it was just a matter of time until its number one competitor would announce a similar device, which will also compete with some of the oldest voice-controlled speakers on the market, Amazon Echo and Google Home.

As we expected, The Wall Street Journal confirms that Samsung's rumored smart speaker will be powered by the company's in-house developed intelligent interface called Bixby, Samsung’s answer to Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa, which ships pre-installed with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ flagships in South Korea.

The English version of Bixby delayed

No other details are available about Samsung's upcoming, Bixby-powered voice-controller home speaker, but one thing is for sure, Bixby is not yet ready for English-speaking users as Samsung recently announced that it takes them more time than expected to develop Bixby in other languages than Korean, which is currently used in Galaxy S8 and S8+.

"Developing Bixby in other languages is taking more time than we expected mainly because of the lack of the accumulation of big data," said a Samsung spokesperson to The Korea Herald. Samsung promised to release the English and Chinese versions of Bixby in May and June respectively, but it looks like it will take them a little longer.

Other tech companies like Microsoft and Alibaba are developing their own smart speakers to compete with big players like Google and Amazon, but we think it's safe to say that voice-activated speakers are becoming a trend and it could soon be the brain of your future smart home.
