A rumor from a couple of days ago stated that Samsung could release the Gear S3 smartwatch during the IFA 2016 event scheduled for September. Now, a report from SamMobile has detailed the features and sensors that are present in the upcoming product.

The report says that the Samsung Gear S3 will come with a round design, similar to that of its predecessor, the Gear S2. In addition, the smartwatch will have an altimeter, a barometer, a speedometer, as well as an integrated GPS.

The device's altimeter will be used for measuring altitude, which will be shown in meters/miles on the display. Users simply need to connect the Gear S3 to the Internet and tap the screen in order to calibrate the altimeter. In addition, they will be able to view the hour and altitude shown in both X-axis and Y-axis.

The Gear S3 will also come with a barometer for measuring atmospheric pressure, and readings will be shown in hPa units on the display. The barometer can be used for weather forecasts and for determining altitude. Moreover, manual calibration will be available, and users simply need to set the reference values for altitude, sea pressure level, and distance.

The main advantage of such a barometer is the option to check on upcoming weather conditions quickly. It will come with weather warnings that will show if the pressure drops by 4hPa or more during a 3-hour time interval.

The speedometer is used for measuring the current speed, calculating average speeds, tracking distance and total time. It comes in handy when using the Gear S3 for jogging or other sports activities. It works together with the GPS, which means that location services must be enabled on the paired Samsung device or the smartwatch. The speedometer will keep a log list of various measurements that it makes.

Some rumors say that the upcoming Samsung Gear S3 could be called the Gear S3 Frontier, as the company has recently filed for the trademark in South Korea.
