14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung officially announced the Galaxy Xcover 4 mid-ranger last month, almost two years after its predecessor arrived to the market. It seems that the Xcover 4 might arrive in Europe and the United States around the same time.
UK retailer Clove has revealed that Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 will arrive in stock in two weeks, on April 24. The smartphone will carry a price tag of £249 and run Android 7.0 Nougat. The Xcover 4 sees some improvements compared to its predecessor, but notable changes are missing.
The rugged smartphone comes with a small 5-inch display with 720p resolution while featuring a 13MP rear camera and just 5MP selfie sensor in the front with f/2.2 aperture. Connectivity-wise, the Xcover 4 offers LTE Cat4, Bluetooth 4.2. WiFi options, a microUSB 2.0 port, and even NFC.
Certification against water damage and drops
Xcover 4 draws power from a 2,800mAh battery and runs a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. What makes this smartphone stand out is its IP68 certification that allows users to submerge the device in under 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes.
Moreover, the device comes with MIL-STD 810G certification, meaning that the phone can withstand drops from a certain height. Surely, it’s aimed at people who are looking for a reliable smartphone in relatively extreme situations.
It’s worth noting that the display size on the Xcover 4 is lightly larger than on its predecessor, which sported a 4.5-inch screen and 480 x 800 pixel resolution. RAM capacity was quite small at just 1.5GB, but a 0.5GB bump in RAM doesn’t seem that much for the Xcover 4.
Aside from this, the Xcover 3 had just 8GB of internal memory, but featured the same certifications against water and dust damages, as well as drops from a certain height. The Xcover 4 will be available solely in the color gray.
