Once every two years, Samsung launches an Xcover series smartphone that offers unimpressive features in an ultra-rugged body. Since the Galaxy Xcover 3 made its debut on the market back in April 2015, it makes perfect sense for Samsung to unveil its predecessor this year.

Following Samsung's MWC 2017 press conference where the company introduced its flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S3, a new mid-range Android smartphone has been unveiled, the Galaxy Xcover 4.

The rugged smartphone has been officially introduced in Germany, but there's no doubt that the Xcover 4 will be available for purchase in many more countries.

Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 benefits from MIL-STD-810G certification, which makes it dust and water resistant, just like some of the previous Xcover models launched by Samsung in the past.

Aside from that, the smartphone is totally unimpressive even for a mid-range device. According to Samsung Germany, the Galaxy Xcover 4 will be available for purchase in black color for €259 outright.

The good news is the smartphone will ship with Android 7.0 Nougat operating system right out of the box, which is a wonder considering its specs.

For starters, the Galaxy Xcover 4 is equipped with a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, paired with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD card slot.

The smartphone sports a 5-inch display that supports HD (720p) resolution, and features a 13-megapixel camera on the back, as well as a secondary 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture.

When it comes to connectivity, the Galaxy Xcover 4 has you all covered, as it offers LTE Cat4, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, microUSB 2.0, and even NFC (Near Field Communication). Last but not least, the rugged handset is powered by a 2,800 mAh battery, which hasn't been rated by the manufacturer yet.
