The device expected to be announced earlier than usual

A new alleged leak that’s making the rounds right now claims that Samsung wants to bring the Galaxy S9 to the market sooner than originally planned, and at least “some” of the features will be inspired from Apple’s iPhone X.

While no details have been provided, @Ricciolo1 says that Samsung calls these features borrowed from the iPhone X “tricks,” though they most likely enable new functionality on the device.

One feature that’s expected to be copied from the iPhone X is an advanced facial recognition system, though the term copy has created quite a controversy among fans of the two companies.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 already comes with a facial recognition system that allows easy unlocking of the device, but the iPhone X is the one that employs 3D sensing cameras for advanced functionality and potentially more secure authentication. As compared to Samsung, Apple removed the fingerprint sensor completely from the iPhone X, while the Galaxy S8 still features it on the back of the device.

Galaxy S9 launching earlier than planned

The same Twitter tipster says Samsung will take the wraps off the new Galaxy S9 earlier than expected, but it’s worth mentioning this isn’t the first time when such rumors reach the web.

The same thing happens pretty much every year and Samsung is said to be planning an earlier launch of its flagships for every new generation, though the company might have a good reason to do this given the strong iPhone X demand.

The Galaxy S9 will come with a dual-camera system, most likely with a layout inspired from the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and will be faster, which is mostly the result of a new processor and more RAM mix.

Of course, a certain amount of skepticism is recommended when reading such rumors, but all sources appear to be pointing in the same direction, with the Galaxy S9 to keep the fingerprint sensor, but also embrace 3D sensing cameras for a more advanced facial recognition system.
