No separate launch event this time for the Samsung flagship

Just like Apple, Samsung typically takes the wraps off its new flagships during separate launch events, as despite the company participating to mobile conferences, it obviously wants all eyes to be on its new models only.

For the Galaxy S9, however, Samsung could embrace a completely different strategy and unveil the upgraded smartphones at the MWC 2018 in Barcelona, Spain.

This is what a new report from Korean media claims, indicating the Samsung wants to bring the Galaxy S9 to the market in mid-March, hence a late February debut is the right timing.

The iPhone X effect

The Samsung Galaxy S8 was officially launched on March 29, while sales started in mid-April, but this time it’s believed the South Korean firm might be in a rush to bring its new device to the market because of the strong demand that Apple is experiencing with the iPhone X.

Apple launched its iPhone X in September, but sales only kicked off on November 3 due to production struggles, with the company still working with suppliers on aligning production with demand. iPhone X supply issues are expected to be fully addressed by the end of the year, with stock for walk-in customers to be ready in early 2018.

This means Samsung has every reason to bring the Galaxy S9 to the market as fast as possible, though it’s believed the Galaxy S8 is still selling strongly at the moment.

As far as the chances planned for the Galaxy S9, the device will most likely come with a design similar to the existing S8 with two big differences. One, the bottom front bezel is likely to be smaller, and two, the fingerprint sensor on the back could be placed below the camera in a more natural position.

It remains to be seen of this new launch date is accurate, but it’s pretty clear that we’re only a few months away from the moment the new S9 will see daylight.
