Samsung will take the wraps off the new Galaxy S9 on February 25 just ahead of the MWC 2018 kickoff, but today the full specifications and official press photos leaked to the web in anticipation of this public launch.

First and foremost, in terms of looks the Galaxy S9 will be very similar to its predecessor, though more substantial changes will take place on the back. The cameras and the fingerprint sensor will be placed in a vertical layout, with the Galaxy S9+ to also feature a dual-camera system.

On the front, the Galaxy S9 will be nearly the same as the Galaxy S8, but WinFuture says a slightly smaller bezel is being used at the bottom, though it’s unlikely to be very noticeable.

The Galaxy S9 will feature a 5.8-inch SuperAMOLED display, while the bigger plus model will stick with 6.2 inches. Both will feature 2960 x 1440 pixels resolution and the same 18.5:9 aspect ratio.

Tech specs

Just like on the existing generation, power will come from Samsung’s own Exynos in Europe and from a Snapdragon processor in the United States and other markets. For the Old Continent, Samsung will use the Exynos 9810 clocked at 1.9 GHz, but reaching 2.9 GHz in turbo mode. There will be 4GB of RAM on the Galaxy S9 and 6GB on the bigger version paired with 64GB storage, while microSD card support will allow for an extra 400GB storage.

The battery will come in the from of a 3000 mAh unit on the Galaxy S9, while the S9+ will feature 3500 mAh, obviously with both fast and wireless charging to be offered.

When it comes to the cameras, this is where Samsung has focused on the most. The Galaxy S9 series will feature a dual-pixel variable aperture camera between F1.5 and F2.4, which should improve performance in low-light conditions, but also give users more control over their photos. The dual-camera system on the S9+ will combine two different 12-megapixel sensors, one with the variable aperture and another one with a fixed F2.4 aperture. Both will offer laser autofocus and OIS.

The front-facing camera will also offer autofocus and will boast 8 megapixels with F1.7 aperture, according to the leak.

Three color versions

Samsung is also working on a series of extra features, including improved iris scanning and face recognition. It’s believed the firm wants to offer some sort of Apple Animoji-like feature, but no details were leaked in this regard.

The Galaxy S9 will run Android 8.0 out of the box and will be offered in three colors versions in Europe, namely Midnight Black, Coral Blue, and Lilac Purple. Pre-orders will go live on February 25 just after the public unveiling, while the first units will ship on March 8.
