Samsung is getting ready to take the wraps off the new-generation Galaxy S9, and information coming from people with knowledge of the matter indicate that the device is going to be the most expensive S-series model ever released by the South Korean firm.

While no specifics were provided until now, a report from the Korean-based ETNews indicates that the Galaxy S9 will be priced locally from 950,000 won ($895), while an upgraded version could cost 999,000 won ($935).

While phones are typically more expensive in South Korea than in the rest of the markets because of local taxes, these prices do provide us with an estimate as to how much they could cost in the United States when they go on sale in March.

iPhone 8 Plus price level

Judging from the price difference between the S8 and the S9 in South Korea (935,000 won vs. 950,000 won) and taking into account the starting price of the S8 in the United States ($750), the S9 could go on sale in America for $799.

This means the Samsung Galaxy S9 could cost as much as the iPhone 8 Plus in the United States, which for $799 comes with 64GB storage (the 256GB version is sold for $949).

Obviously, these are just rough estimates of Samsung’s Galaxy S9 prices, but given that it’s expected to be the most expensive Galaxy ever, there’s a good chance they’re pretty close to the truth.

Samsung will take the wraps off the Galaxy S9 on February 25, while pre-orders should begin in early March. The first units will be shipped on March 16, with full details to be shared by Samsung during the Unpacked event in late February.
