With Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge launched just a few months ago, market analysts are already speculating on the specs of upcoming models in the Galaxy S series. Market research firm UBI Research predicts that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with a 4K UHD display, according to Korea Herald.

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 will most likely be unveiled next year, and it should sport an upgraded display compared to previous smartphones in the series. A 4K UHD display is expected to be incorporated on the upcoming handset, making it the first of its kind in Samsung's lineup.

The research company came to this conclusion after analyzing the trend regarding Samsung displays. It seems that, once every two years, Samsung significantly upgrades the screen quality on its Galaxy flagships.

The first Galaxy handset was released in March 2010 and featured a 4-inch active-matrix organic light-emitting diode display. Samsung uses AMOLED panels on its devices, which is a type of OLED panel.

Last year’s Sony Xperia Z5 Premium came with a 4K display

In addition to this, the company states that Samsung has improved display resolution 9.6 times since the first Galaxy smartphone was released whereas the display size has increased by around 30%.

Furthermore, Samsung held a demonstration of a 5.5-inch 4K UHD display with 806 ppi during the Society for Information Display 2016 trade show, thus revealing that it had been working on such a screen.

The 4K display provides a significant improvement in the VR experience, a sector of the market that continues to grow significantly, with increasingly more smartphones being coupled with VR headsets upon launch.

But Samsung won’t be the first smartphone maker to attach such a powerful display on a handset. Last year, Sony released the Xperia Z5 Premium, which came with a 5.5-inch 4K Ultra HD display.

This is mere speculation at this point, but numbers do seem to point in the right direction, and a 4K UHD display would certainly make the Galaxy S8 extremely appealing to consumers.
