Samsung is determined to make great changes to the Galaxy S line, the biggest one being the removal of the physical home button from the front panel. The fingerprint scanner is thus relocated to the back of the phone, while some argue that its position isn’t the most fortunate.
This isn’t the only design change that Samsung is making on the new Galaxy S flagship. Earlier today, @OnLeaks and GearIndia posted clear renders of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, as well as a video of the two devices, based on schematics. Also today, we came across an alleged live image of the phone.
Reputable tipster @OnLeaks is back with schematics for the new Galaxy S phone, showing several interesting details. The first that pops out is the camera bump on the back of the Galaxy S8. Some users aren’t pleased with the camera bump on Galaxy smartphones and it seems that Samsung has taken their discontent into account.
Significantly smaller camera bump on the Galaxy S8
Schematics show that the camera bump on the Galaxy S8 measures 0.2mm, quite smaller than the one on the Galaxy S7 edge, which reached 1.0mm. The rear camera on the Galaxy Note 7 had a 0.8mm bump on the back panel. It’s quite an improvement and provides an even slimmer look to the Galaxy S8 phone as a whole.
The schematics also show the fingerprint sensor on the back, right next to the camera. Samsung didn’t level out the back panel completely, perhaps so that users could distinguish between the fingerprint sensor and the camera when holding the phone. In addition, Samsung is aiming towards a slimmer Galaxy S8 and thus compromises on a camera bump.
The schematics also show that the Galaxy S8 will be 8mm thin, compared to the 7.9mm on the Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy Note 7. The 0.1mm difference is virtually unnoticeable during day-to-day use, while it allows the smartphone to pack additional components, compared to its predecessors. Just like these images suggest, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are expected to come with an iris scanner and the inclusion of Bixby virtual assistant.
