14 DAY TRIAL // The Samsung Galaxy S8 is surely one of the most anticipated smartphones of next year and information on the upcoming device continues to surface online. GizmoChina recently came across new renders of the phone, showing its stunning design.
Judging by the renders, the Galaxy S8 will be a gorgeous phone with dual-curved display. Samsung has reportedly decided to ditch the flat-screen variant and provide the phone in two curved-display variants. The decision was surely influenced by higher sales of the Galaxy S6 edge and S7 edge, compared to their flat-screen counterparts.
Another novelty regarding the design of the Galaxy S8 is the physical home screen, which won’t be featured on the upcoming model. This raises the question regarding the fingerprint scanner, which will reportedly be placed on the back of the device.
The Galaxy S8 could have a fingerprint scanner on the back
Some have thought that maybe Samsung would incorporate the fingerprint scanner under the display, which would mean that you could unlock the phone by placing the finger anywhere on the screen. Recent reports say the scanner would be located on the back. Samsung first introduced the iris scanner on one of its commercial phones, the Galaxy Note 7.
It was one of the main selling points for the phablet and it even prompted the company to partner with some South Korean banks for user authentication. The Galaxy Note 7 was discontinued, but Samsung might incorporate the technology in the upcoming Galaxy S8.
Recent renders show the smartphone might be thinner than the Galaxy S7 edge and have a single rear camera, which doesn’t mean that it won’t be able to compete with Pixel phones when it comes to image quality. Images also show a missing 3.5mm headphone jack, which means that Samsung might ditch the port and join the ranks of Apple and Moto. Recent information also points to the fact that the Galaxy S8 might have a 20% price increase due to raw material costs.
