14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung usually releases special editions of its flagship smartphones and the Galaxy S8 is no exception. The Pirates of the Caribbean Edition of the Galaxy S8 is now official, but only in China.
Samsung partnered up with Disney in order to develop the limited edition Galaxy S8 Pirates of the Caribbean. It comes with a limited edition case, together with a unique box that includes a faux gold ring, according to a report.
The internal components are the same as on the standard Galaxy S8; Samsung only changed the appearance of the smartphone, but didn’t make modifications in terms of specs. It has a 5.8-inch Infinity Display and runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 platform. It also comes with a 12MP camera on the back and a fingerprint scanner located on the rear, next to the camera lens.
Galaxy S8 Pirates of the Caribbean Edition sells for $880 in China
The retail box actually looks like a treasure chest with the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales theme on it. The regular retail box is also featured inside the chest, while the faux gold ring holder is placed alongside the limited edition case.
This special variant also comes with a custom Pirates of the Caribbean theme set as default and the case features the design of a skull on the back. In terms of pricing, the smartphone is available for $880 in China, at JD.com.
Last year, Samsung released several limited edition variants of the Galaxy S7, including Batman and Iron Man-themed models. The phones were released in a number of markets, but it’s quite unlikely that the Galaxy S8 Pirates of the Caribbean Edition will arrive in the US seeing how the movie’s premiere has come and gone. Still, Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S8 Active in the US sometime this month, featuring a rugged design and a higher battery capacity
