There will be at least two Galaxy S8 versions launched

Rumors about the upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship continue to pour in, but that's not the most interesting thing that we have to report on today. It appears that Samsung has already started to work on the next Galaxy Note series smartphone.

Although we would have expected the next Galaxy S8 phones to feature SM-G94X model numbers, the South Korean company has something else in mind. Well-known leaker Evan Blass claims the new Galaxy S8 smartphones will ship as SM-G950 and SM-G955.

Skipping a model number hasn't been effective for Samsung in the past; let's not forget that the handset maker launched the Galaxy Note 7 and skipped the Galaxy Note 6 naming. Hopefully, the current naming scheme won't bring more bad luck to the world's biggest smartphone maker.

Along with the new model numbers for the Galaxy S8 smartphones, Evan Blass also unveiled what we believe it's the next Galaxy Note device to be launched by Samsung. So, it looks like the company is already working on a device with the model number SM-N950.

Considering all the previous Galaxy Note series phones were launched as SM-N9XX, it's safe to assume that the SM-N950 is the new phablet that Samsung is supposed to release next year.

While a new Galaxy Note phone makes perfect sense, it's unclear why Samsung has decided to work on the device even before the Galaxy S8 made its debut on the market.

It may be that Samsung has decided to make sure that its next Note flagship won't be plagued by issues, so that it has enough time to test it in its labs.

On the other hand, an earlier Galaxy Note reveal, at Mobile World Congress 2017, is possible. Although there's a slim chance that Samsung will surprise its fans with two completely different flagships in Q2, we shouldn't rule it out.
