Samsung issued a massive recall for its latest smartphone, the Galaxy Note 7, which puts a lot of pressure on the company's upcoming flagship smartphone. The codenames for the upcoming Galaxy S8 have surfaced online and some analysts say that the smartphone could be announced earlier than predicted.

SamMobile reported that two versions of the Galaxy S8 might arrive, internally referred to as Dream and Dream2. The two models carry the codenames SM-G950 and SMG955. Samsung Galaxy S7 bears the model number SM-G930. The report says that Samsung usually bumps up the code number by 10 for a successor, but it seems that this isn't the case for the Galaxy S8.

Apparently, the reason behind the 20 bump is tetraphobia, which is the practice of associating the number 4 with bad luck and it's very prominent in South Korea. The number 4 is reportedly skipped in the country's hospitals and public buildings, while the 4th floor in some buildings is denoted by the letter F.

Samsung Galaxy S8 might arrive sooner than February next year

This isn't the first time Samsung does this. The model number for the Galaxy S4 was supposed to be GT-I9400, but GT-I9500 was used instead. In another report, SamMobile revealed that Samsung might advance the announcement of the Galaxy S8 next year.

The company was said to unveil the Galaxy S8 during MWC in February next year, but it seems that the device could arrive sooner. However, the date, or even month, is unknown at this point.

Samsung might want to bump sales and recover from the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco faster, considering that sales of the latest flagship have yet to restart. In fact, the company might restart sales in key markets, like the US, in October.

Other rumors on the Galaxy S8 include the fact that the two variants will be available only in dual-curved screens, but that remains to be seen. It's safe to say that Samsung will put all efforts into its upcoming flagship, to make sure that the company's image and financial situation are gradually restored.
