Only a couple of weeks are left until Samsung holds the Unpacked 2017 event and announces the new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ flagships. The two phones are expected to come with a brand new design and a relocated fingerprint scanner.

Recent reports have stated that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will feature the same 12MP rear camera as seen on the Galaxy S7. The Galaxy S7 edge came with a 12MP camera, f/1.7 aperture, phase detection autofocus, OIS and LED flash.

The camera had the capacity to record 4k videos and came with auto HDR, panorama and touch focus features. The front camera had a 5MP capacity, f/1.7 aperture and auto HDR. With all the improvements in other areas on the Galaxy S8, Samsung was bound to bring changes to the camera as well.

1000fps video recording feature on Galaxy S8

The Galaxy S8 will come with a rear camera that can record 1000fps videos, according to a report by Naver. The Galaxy S7 edge had the capacity to record 720p videos at 240fps, but the Galaxy S8 will beat that.

The report says that 1000fps is possible thanks to the added DRAM inside the camera sensor itself. The DRAM would be used as buffer memory, similar to the technique that Sony introduced with its Xperia XZ Premium last month. Sony’s phone has an IMX400 19MP camera sensor, which can capture 960fps slow-motion videos, but the Galaxy S8 won’t have the same sensor.

Moreover, information about the front-camera also leaked, and we found out the Galaxy S8 would have an 8MP sensor with autofocus. The smartphone will also feature a 3.7-megapixel RGB camera sensor for iris scanner, which backs up previous reports.

The Galaxy S8 will offer users the option to conduct mobile payments through iris scanning technology and it will also come with Samsung’s own virtual assistant, Bixby.
