Samsung is working hard on its upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship and the company plans to conduct extensive testing on the phone, which is said to arrive in February next year. A new report by Korea Herald reveals that the phone maker could equip the Galaxy S8 with a dual-camera setup.

Samsung could equip the highly-anticipated Galaxy S8 with an iris scanner and a dual-lens rear camera, to make it more attractive to potential customers and thus recover some losses caused by the discontinuation of its latest flagship, the Galaxy Note 7.

The Note 7 also came with an iris scanner, a technology that Samsung said it took them several years to develop. The company had talked to multiple banks and financial institutions in South Korea in order to provide iris scanning authentication methods for customers. The device maker will reportedly contract the same iris scanner suppliers for the Galaxy S8 as it did for the Galaxy Note 7.

The Galaxy S8 could also come with a dual-camera setup on the back

The dual-camera setup on the bank is also likely since “Samsung never uses the same camera for its flagship models, upgrading the camera of its flagship device every year, so there surely will be an improvement (for the S8 camera),” said an official from one of Samsung’s suppliers for the S8.

In addition, suppliers and module makers would see their revenue increase or even double due to the inclusion of two rear camera sensors on the Galaxy S8.

In the past year, many smartphone makers have included dual-camera sensors on their flagship phones, including the iPhone 7 Plus and LG’s V20.

Samsung could release two variants of the Galaxy S8, one with a 2k 5.1-inch curved Super AMOLED display and the other with a 5.5-inch 4k screen. Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 SoC or Exynos 8895 CPU are expected to be featured on the phone, which is said to come with a new artificial intelligence assistant to replace S Voice. In addition, the smartphone could have 6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal memory.
