The smartphone could feature a dedicated AI button

Samsung has always unveiled its first flagship of the year at Mobile World Congress trade fair, which is usually scheduled for the end of February. Almost every year, a few months ahead of the Galaxy S announcement, rumors claim the phone will be delayed for whatever reason.

This year is no exception, as Wall Street Journal reports Samsung is considering delaying the Galaxy S8 until April. The South Korean company hasn't yet decided that it will launch its flagship after MWC 2017 yet, but it's a possibility that could become reality if the development of the device doesn't go as smoothly as it should.

Sources familiar with Samsung's plans claim executives are looking to delay the announcement of the smartphone, but that doesn't guarantee that it will be unveiled in April. The source claims the Galaxy S8's launch could “come as late as April,” so a March announcement is possible as well.

The South Korean company declined to comment on the matter, but that's quite understandable since Samsung hasn't yet made any decisions regarding the Galaxy S8's launch announcement.

Another interesting piece of information revealed by sources concerns the new technologies and features that Galaxy S8 will be gifted with. We have already reported about the Viv or Bixby, Samsung's take on AI digital assistants, which will come preloaded on the Galaxy S8.

A new report now claims Samsung wants to include a dedicated button on the side edge of the Galaxy S8, which should launch its virtual assistant based on AI. This particular feature is still in the works and it's still being tested, so it could be changed in the final version of the phone.

A delay of the Galaxy S8 by a couple of weeks might not matter that much in the grand scheme of things, especially if the phone will benefit from a flawless launch. The amount of new technologies and features that Samsung plans to implement in the phone might require a longer development period.
