Waterproof protection has become quite an important feature on any smartphone released on the market, as it allows the handset to be submerged underwater and still function afterward. On that note, one user has Samsung Galaxy S7's waterproof feature to thank for his life.

Yonhap News Agency reports that a Samsung Galaxy S7 saved one man's life as well as of people around him. It seems that the smartphone owner survived a shipwreck in the Philippines thanks to the handset's waterproof capabilities. Samsung received a letter from the owner in which he details the whole incident.

The identity of the smartphone owner wasn't revealed, but apparently, he was on a boat heading to Sabang Beach in central Philippines for a scuba dive trip. He was accompanied by 10 other people on the trip that took place on July 30.

It seems that, following a storm, the ship was overturned, and the people remained stranded on the foundering vessel. One hour had passed before they were picked up by a nearby fishing boat. Because of Samsung's Galaxy S7's IP68 certification and, therefore, waterproof capabilities, the user was able to call authorities and report the incident.

The smartphone even had more than 50% battery left

Although the handset was clearly submerged during the storm, water didn't affect its components. Thankfully, the user still had more than 50% battery on his phone, even though more than 24 hours passed since he last charged the device.

Samsung's Galaxy S7 comes with IP68 certification, which means that the smartphone can be submerged under 1.5 meters of water for about 30 minutes. The handset is also protected from dust, dirt, and sand. Whether the story is true or not is hard to tell, but it does seem plausible.

Just recently, we reported on an incident where a Galaxy S7 still functioned after spending two hours underwater. It appears that the owner dropped the device in a lake and was able to recover it two hours later, only to notice that it functioned just like before.
