Samsung is reportedly refusing to compensate users

After the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, Samsung is currently relying on Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in order to revive sales and keep fans from migrating to other brands. Unfortunately for Samsung, some Galaxy S7 owners have complained that the rear camera on the smartphone shatters for no apparent reason.

A report by the Consumerist shows that some Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge owners have experienced issues with the rear camera, which apparently breaks without any kind of impact. Samsung has reportedly refused to cover incidents under warranty, which leaves users searching for other solutions to fix the problem.

The issue seems to affect both devices and the report mentions that many users have complained on Samsung’s forums about it. One user purchased a new Galaxy S7 last week only to wake up one morning and find the camera glass shattered. Needless to say, he didn’t use the phone during the night and couldn’t find any plausible reason as to why it broke. He said the camera glass simply shattered like a miniature bullet hole.

Samsung is charging users for replacing the lens

Samsung refused to replace the camera glass and said that the user had exerted physical damage to the phone. Others have complained about the same issue since April this year. Many said that they kept their phone in a protective case and that the glass shattered in a circle shape similar to a bullet hole.

Samsung is currently charging customers $70 to fix the issue, and users who bought the phone from a carrier must contact them in order to fix the camera lens. In certain cases, Samsung has asked users to bring in their smartphones for investigation, but has yet to make an official statement on the matter.

Considering the high number of users reporting such incidents, we’re thinking that this might actually be a manufacturing defect, and it remains to be seen if Samsung will take responsibility.
