Alongside the Galaxy Note 5, Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy S6 edge+ phablet during the Unpacked event in New York. This device can be best described as a beefed-up version of the Galaxy S6 edge, which the Korean tech giant unveiled at MWC 2015 in Barcelona.

The phone arrives with a 5.7-inch display and is bigger overall, compared to the Galaxy S6 edge. But first, let us look at the specs. The phone will be offered with the same QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixel resolution) as the Galaxy Note 5 and will also draw power from an Exynos 7420 SoC fitted with 4GB of RAM.

The main camera seems to remain unchanged, as Samsung is employing once again the services of a 16M snapper with optical image stabilization and f/1.9 aperture. A frontal 5MP selfie shooter is also on board with f/1.9 aperture.

The Galaxy S6+ edge is pretty similar to the Note 5 inwards

Because there’s no microSD card slot on board, customers will be able to choose 32GB, 64GB or 128GB of built-in storage for their respective variants.

In the connectivity package, Samsung throws in LTE Cat9/Cat.6, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 4.2 with ANT, NFC, GPS (A-AGPS, GLONASS, Beidou) and support for Samsung Pay via Magnetic Secure Transmission.

Like the Galaxy Note 5, the Galaxy S6 edge+ receives power from a 3,000 mAh battery, which is at least better than the one inside the Galaxy S6 edge (2,600 mAh).

So what about the edges on the new phone, you might wonder. Well, Samsung has added a bunch of nifty features on board.

For starters, there’s "People edges" which allows owners of the new handset to access their top favorite contacts and send quick texts and place phone calls.

"App edges," on the other hand, allows users to swiftly access their favorite apps just by swiping the edge of the display.

Last but not least, we should signal the presence of a feature that allows you to send an emoji or poke your People Edge contacts when you feel like making a quick connection.

The new phone will be made available in Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium and White Pearl from AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular and Verizon Wireless, but also from Best Buy, Amazon, Costco, Sam’s Club, Target, and select Walmart stores.

We expect the Galaxy S6 edge+ to retail for a full $800 / €718, while the carriers will sell it at $300 / €269 off-contract.
