Samsung is one of the few handset makers that launch smartphones featuring a clamshell form factor. Each year, the company releases a new Galaxy flip smartphone, which usually hits shelves sometime in fall.

This year, however, Samsung plans to launch at least two new clamshell smartphones. We have already reported about the Galaxy Golden 3, which is likely to go on sale in the next couple of weeks.

Today, the folks over at SamMobile report another Samsung clamshell smartphone was spotted at TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission.

The new device strongly resembles the Galaxy S6, which makes us believe that this might be a clamshell version of Samsung's flagship smartphone.

But it's not just the looks that suggest the SM-W2016 could be a flip version of Galaxy S6. The smartphone packs similar hardware as Samsung's flagship, so the price will be high as well.

A high-end device that offers a premium feel

For example, Samsung SM-W2016 includes the same 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 processor inside, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.

There's no mention of microSD card, so we must assume that, just like all Galaxy S6 handsets, the SM-W2016 lacks one.

Furthermore, the smartphone will come preloaded with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box. It measures 120.4 x 61 x 15.1mm and weighs no less than 204g (battery included).

Samsung SM-W2016 sports two 3.9-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen displays that support HD (720p) resolution.

At the back, the clamshell packs an impressive 16-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, dual-LED flash and 4K video recording, whereas in the front there's a secondary 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

There's no word on price tag and availability, but since it has just received its certification at TENAA, we expect it to be launched in China very soon.
