14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung has already started the Android 6.0 Marshmallow rollout for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, but the update has barely made its way to devices in the United States.
The South Korean company is usually providing the upgrade to unlocked smartphones, while carrier-branded devices receive it slightly later.
The good news is major carrier Verizon Wireless is now the second to provide customers with Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, after Sprint.
The operator has just announced that software version MMB29K.G920VVRU4CPC2 should be available for download to all Galaxy S6 devices purchased through Verizon’s official retail channels.
If you own the Verizon-branded Galaxy S6 and S6 edge smartphones, then you should know that the update is rolled out OTA (over the air) in stages, which means not all devices will receive it at the same time.
Also, before you download the update, you should connect your smartphone to a Wi-Fi network, or at least make sure that it has a strong Verizon network connection. You should also make sure that the phone’s battery is fully charged.
Some Verizon-specific changes have been included in the update too
Aside from announcing the availability of the update, Verizon also highlighted some of Marshmallow main improvements and new features that will be available to Galaxy S6 and S6 edge owners after upgrading to this version of the OS.
So, expect Android 6.0 Marshmallow to bring Now on Tap, Doze mode, apps permissions, new search buttons, improved notifications control and much more.
Besides the usual Marshmallow new features and improvements, Verizon also added a few of its own such as Wi-Fi Calling improvements, including backing up call logs to Verizon Cloud. In addition, the update brings a more seamless transition from Wi-Fi to network coverage while using mobile data, including on Network Extenders.
Furthermore, MirrorLink is now supported on more vehicles, and Go90 app will now be pre-loaded on the smartphones. You should also expect improvements to Live Broadcast, and easier app searches.
