The smartphone will receive regular security patches

The Galaxy S5 is more than one year old, but the smartphone should definitely receive the highly anticipated Android 6.0 Marshmallow update next year. Hopefully, sooner rather than later.

Until then, Samsung pledged to monthly security updates for some of its most popular high-end smartphones, the Galaxy S5 included.

Over the weekend, the South Korean company started to push a new update for Samsung Galaxy S5, which brings a security patch, along with other improvements.

We've captured the update in Europe, but it might already be available in other regions as well. The update is about 206MB in size, so make sure you have enough storage space before downloading it.

According to the official changelog, the update should upgrade the Smart Manager and improve the FOTA speed. It should also apply the Android regular security patch.

Last but not least, Samsung states that this maintenance update will also improve performance by efficient system management. So, as you can see there are no new features included in this update, and there shouldn't be any new feature added to Galaxy S5 until Samsung releases Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The first security patch is dated November 1

The Galaxy S5 is still stuck on Android 5.0 Lollipop, but Samsung is likely to upgrade this directly to Marshmallow. After installing the latest update, we noticed that Samsung added a security patch dated November 1.

This means that we should expect the December security patch to arrive sometime in early January, next year. Obviously, the update doesn't change the Android version, so our Galaxy S5 is still running Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Have you captured the update yet? Does your Galaxy S5 work better after applying the update? Let us know in the comments section whether you've noticed any other changes that haven't been mentioned in our article.
