Samsung to unveil the device before MWC at dedicated event

We’ve known for a while that Samsung would take the wraps off the Galaxy S10 in February, and while the company has made it a hobby to unveil its flagship product just ahead of the MWC show, this time it may be going for a different approach.

The Galaxy S10 could see daylight one week before the opening day of MWC 2019, according to a report from The Korea Herald, and the South Korean firm may be hosting a dedicated Unpacked event in San Francisco.

The first day of MWC 2019 is February 25, and if this report is right, then the Samsung Galaxy S10 could be announced on February 18.

No specifics were provided on when sales could kick off, but expect it to happen in early March, as per the company’s typical approach.

Huawei also planning MWC unveiling

As for the reasons why Samsung doesn’t want to launch the Galaxy S10 on the eve of this year’s MWC, it’s believed the South Koreans want to avoid any possible overlapping with another major product launch. This would technically mean that the Samsung Galaxy S10 could receive lower exposure, as the press would also discuss about the other devices announced by Samsung’s rivals.

One of them is none other than Huawei, the Chinese phone maker whose new goal is to overtake Samsung and become the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer by 2020. Huawei could take the wraps off its foldable phone at MWC this year, and with Samsung being aware of this, it makes sense for the Galaxy S10 to go live earlier.

If today’s report is accurate, it shouldn’t take too long before Samsung begins sending out invites to journalists, so a confirmation is likely to make the rounds very soon.

For now, however, we should all just take this with a pinch of salt, though a February launch of the Galaxy S10 is all but confirmed.
