14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung’s Galaxy J7 (2017) is currently available at a number of US carriers, but under different monikers. The smartphone is currently sold as the Galaxy J7 V at Verizon, and it will carry the Galaxy J7 Perx retail name at Virgin and Boost Mobile.
TracFone is also expected to launch the new Galaxy J7 smartphone under the Galaxy J7 Sky Pro moniker, while Sprint already offers it under the Galaxy J7 Perx retail name. In terms of pricing, the smartphone can be purchased for $265 outright or $11 per month for 24 months, with no upfront payment.
The Galaxy J7 V is actually cheaper at Verizon Wireless, carrying a price tag of $240 outright or $10 per month for 24 months. It’s also worth mentioning that the one-time activation fee is $30 at Verizon.
Mid-ranger specs similar to its predecessor
The Galaxy J7 (2017) is clearly a mid-range smartphone, running Android 7.0 Nougat and featuring a 5.5-inch display with 720p resolution. Battery capacity should be satisfactory at 3,300mAh, same as on last year’s model.
In fact the display size is the same as on last year’s Galaxy J7 (2016), while Samsung did incorporate a more recent chipset inside this year’s model, the Snapdragon 625 platform, coupled with 2GB of RAM and just 16GB of storage which could be expanded to 256GB.
The rear camera has a capacity of just 8MP, while the selfie snapper on the front has a 5MP sensor, same as last year’s phone. Other than that, the smartphone doesn’t have NFC connectivity, but it should work on Sprint’s LTE Plus network. It also has Bluetooth 4.2 and FM Radio support.
After announcing its Galaxy S flagship for this year, Samsung is now focusing on releasing new iterations in its mid-range lineups, as well as a new Galaxy Note 8 in late summer and the long-due foldable smartphone Galaxy X.
