14 DAY TRIAL // South Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung has just released the new generation of Galaxy J3 series in China. The mid-range smartphone was rumored to debut on June 18, but it seems that Samsung decided to introduce it earlier.
Late last year, Samsung quietly launched the Galaxy J3, and it appears that the company decided to release the next-generation smartphone in the series, the Galaxy J3 Pro, in China.
The handset will be available through China Telecom, one of the country’s largest carriers. However, Samsung is expected to make the device available in other markets as well, over the next few weeks.
The Galaxy J3 passed through TENAA a few days ago, when some of its specs were leaked. The entry-level device comes with a 5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. Internal memory can be expanded to 128GB with a microSD card. The phone also comes with a satisfactory 2,650mAh battery, considering its specs and price.
Galaxy J3 Pro runs Android Lollipop 5.1 with TouchWiz UI on top
At its core, the Galaxy J3 Pro comes with the Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, coupled with Adreno 306 graphics processing unit. It has an 8MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP selfie snapper on the front. It’s a dual-SIM smartphone that supports 4GB LTE connectivity.
Just as expected, the Galaxy J3 Pro runs Android Lollipop 5.1 with TouchWiz UI on top. It’s unsure why Samsung would decide to implement this Android OS version on a newly released handset, but updates to Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 should be available over the next few weeks.
The Galaxy J3 Pro is a slight upgrade from its predecessor, the Galaxy J3, which had less RAM and less internal storage. The latest smartphone in the Galaxy J3 series comes in two colors, Gold and Gray. It’s sold for $150 (€132) in China, and Samsung is expected to announce its international availability in the coming weeks.
