Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) received many of its certifications and was spotted on benchmarking sites recently, but the phone has yet to be officially released. Pictures of the smartphone have made their way on the Internet and it seems that the device will finally arrive during the first week of next year.

Sprint will be the first carrier to release the second-generation Galaxy J3 phone on its network, according to Venture Beat. Sprint intends to rename the phone as Galaxy J3 Emerge and make it available at its prepaid carriers, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile.

The phone is more commonly known as the Galaxy J3 (2017), but a user manual shows that Sprint will brand it as the Galaxy J3 Emerge. The device is set to arrive on January 6, 2017, while pricing and availability will be revealed on that day.

The Galaxy J3 (2017) will draw power from a 2,600mAh battery

The smartphone brings some changes to the Galaxy J3 (2016), but when it comes to design and size, things are basically the same. The device has a 5-inch display with HD (720p) resolution and is said to feature a 2,600mAh battery, the same as its predecessor, which was announced earlier this year.

The Galaxy J3 Emerge, as it will be known at Sprint, is also expected to run an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. When it comes to processor power, RAM and internal memory capacity, Samsung clearly made some improvements from the Exynos chipset, 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of storage in this year’s model.

The Galaxy J3 (2017) is said to come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and feature a 5MP rear camera, with 2MP in the front. In terms of camera capacity, the J3 (2017) doesn’t seem to bring any improvements from this year’s model.
