Galaxy Note 6 is not the only upcoming Samsung device to be released in the next few months, as the South Korean company also intends to launch the Samsung Galaxy J2 (2016). After several benchmarks surfaced recently, it seems that the Galaxy J2 (2016) has finally passed through the United States of America’s official certification authority, the FCC.

The device was recorded as model SM-J210F. The first Galaxy J2 launched last year carried model names SM-J200F, SM-J200Y, SM-J200H and so on, depending on the region it was released in. This indicates that it might in fact be the Samsung Galaxy J2, 2016 edition and that Samsung might launch additional variants of the phone, but that has yet to be established.

The FCC documents didn’t provide any hardware specifications for the model, but some rumors have appeared, fuelled by multiple benchmark tests that shed some light on the specs that we could see in the upcoming model.

It might come with 4.7-inch display and 16GB of internal memory

A benchmark test revealed that Galaxy J2 (2016) might come with a 4.7-inch display, powered by a 1.5GHz Spreadtrum SC8830 quad-core processor. 2GB of RAM would provide enough fuel for multitasking, while internal memory is set to reach 16GB. It is to be expected for the new Galaxy J2 to come with a microSD card slot, but there’s no information on the amount of expandable memory.

Furthermore, the phone will come with an 8MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP selfie shooter. Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 will be available out of the box and Samsung will be implementing its latest version of the TouchWiz user interface.

Galaxy J2 (2016) is set to succeed its predecessor, the Galaxy J2 which was launched last year. The initial model came with a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display but only 540 x 960 pixels in resolution. It also had a Quad-core 1.3 GHz CPU and 1GB of RAM, with 8GB of storage capacity and the option to expand to 128GB through microSD card.

Needless to say, we expect the 2016 edition to come with considerable improvements to the device, but specs that would still place it in the mid-range segment of smartphones.
