Samsung has quietly launched the ultra-affordable Galaxy J1 mini, which will soon be available on the market in Dubai, Singapore and Russia.

Unfortunately, the South Korean company has not provided any information regarding pricing options and release date. As GSMArena points out, this looks strangely similar to the Galaxy J1 Nxt that was released not long ago in Bangladesh for just $88.

If they are the same device, then Samsung Galaxy J1 mini might cost less than $100 in those markets the handset maker plans to sell it in the coming weeks.

The Galaxy J1 mini ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box. As the name suggests, this is a small smartphone, with a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

Modest specs

On the inside, the phone includes a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, paired with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

On the back, Samsung Galaxy J1 mini packs a 5-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus and video recording, but no LED flash. There's also a modest VGA camera on the front to capture selfies.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy J1 mini's 1,500 mAh battery should provide users with up to 8 hours of talk time on 3G mode, up to 7 hours of browsing, or up to 29 hours of audio playback.

Although the low-end smartphone does not come with 4G LTE support, potential customers will be pleased to know the Galaxy J1 offers dual-SIM, 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with AGPS and GLONASS, 3.5mm audio jack and microUSB 2.0.

For the time being, Galaxy J1 mini has only been confirmed in the countries mentioned earlier, but we suspect Samsung will introduce the ultra-affordable handset in other emerging markets in the coming weeks.
