The original Galaxy Grand Prime made it to maket back on October 2014 with Android 4.4.4 KitKat onboard. Even though many rumors claimed Samsung would upgrade the smartphone to Lollipop, no timeframe has been mentioned in any of these leaks.

When sources familiar with Samsung's plans pointed to a possible release date for Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Galaxy Grand Prime, it didn't confirm.

Those who still own the Galaxy Grand Prime probably lost hope that their device would ever be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop as previously rumored.

Well, it turns out that Samsung has just kicked off the rollout of Lollipop for the original Galaxy Grand Prime (SM-G530W), YouMobile reports.

According to the cited source, Samsung will update the Galaxy Grand Prime directly to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, which means more new features and improvements.

SaskTel is the first carrier in Canada to offer the update

For the time being, the update has been confirmed in Canada, but other countries are likely to follow in the coming weeks.

The update is pushed OTA (over the air) and via Kies desktop software. Depending on country, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop might be available through one of the two methods.

It's also worth mentioning that the update is about 590MB in size, so it's recommended to download it via a stable Wi-Fi network.

As many of you probably know by now, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop brings Google's new Material Design concept, along with an improved TouchWiz UI.

Many other new features and enhancements to notification panel, lockscreen and security are included in the update as well.

Make sure your Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime's battery is at least 50% charged before attempting to update to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Also, keep in mind that the update is delivered in stages, so if it's not available on your smartphone right away, you check for it again later.
