73 common vulnerabilities and exposures have been addressed

Shortly after Google announced it started to roll out the March security update, a couple of other handset makers confirmed they would push the patch as well.

Samsung is among the first companies to provide customers with information about all the changes included in the March security update.

Although Google releases monthly security updates that address many of the vulnerabilities discovered by users or its own engineers, handset makers add their changes to the patch most of the time.

So, aside from the changes included in the March security update released by Google and detailed in the Android Security Bulletin, Samsung added 12 vulnerabilities and exposure items, which are supposed to improve customer's “confidence on security of Samsung Mobile devices.”

The bad news is that even if Samsung is quite fast in releasing these monthly security updates, they have no effect on the so-called “customer's confidence” if they are not delivered to all compatible devices in a timely manner.

Sometimes it takes a couple of months until certain Samsung smartphones, unlocked or carrier-branded, are allowed to download a new security update, and by the time that happens, new patches are released.

Anyway, it appears that besides the 12 patches aimed at Samsung's Galaxy smartphones, the new update also addressed no less than 73 common vulnerabilities and exposures found in the Android operating system.

There aren't too many details available for these patches that fix many of the security vulnerabilities, as they are listed as “privately disclosed.” The reason is quite simple: there may still be some bugs that have been found yet, so some people may want to exploit them if they knew any details about them.

It's unclear when exactly the March security update will start hitting Samsung smartphones, but we're expecting the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge to be among the first to get it.
