Samsung started the rollout of the Android 7.0 Nougat software update to Galaxy S7 and S7 edge phones on January 17, and the company has just announced the list of phones that will be treated to Nougat updates in the coming weeks.

Samsung posted a list of smartphones that will receive updates to Android 7.0 Nougat during the first half of this year. Therefore, until June 2017, expect to see Nougat on the following devices: Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge Plus, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Tab A with S Pen, Galaxy S2 (LTE unlock), Galaxy A3, and Galaxy A8.

The South Korean company will supposedly roll out Nougat to other phones after the software update reaches the models mentioned in the list. The date when Galaxy S6 phones will receive Nougat is unknown at this point, but since it already rolled out to the Galaxy S7, it shouldn’t be long.

Faster download speeds and system software updates

Regarding novelties that Android 7.0 Nougat brings to Galaxy devices, Samsung said “new and improved features promise to let Galaxy users get more out of their devices.” Specifically, Nougat will allow for faster speeds for downloading apps and system software updates.

The Quick Panel will be treated to a cleaner design, as titles were removed from the icons in the panel’s first depth. Icons on the second layer were arranged into groups of nine, so that users would find them more easily. The Quick Panel also offers access to the S Finder feature and notifications have been grouped. As expected, Nougat brings Direct Reply from the notification shade.

Moving on, Galaxy owners will be able to enjoy multi window support, which allows them to shift between up to five separate windows in addition to the two in the split-screen view. This means that users can access up to seven apps at the same time.

Performance Mode is a new addition and offers a way for users to optimize their phones by extending battery life, enhancing processing speed, sound and image quality. Multiple performance modes are included. Lastly, Samsung Pass is now available on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, and the feature will soon be welcoming support for mobile banking app integration.
