14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung has taken the wraps off three new devices, all of which are powered by Windows 10 and could serve as alternatives to Microsoft’s very own Surface models.
First and foremost, Samsung Note 9 Pen, a device that comes with the S Pen stylus and which uses a convertible hinge that makes it possible to play the role of either a laptop or a tablet.
The S Pen offers 4,096 levels of pressure with a 0.7mm tip and provides tilt detection to make writing and drawing feel more natural. Just like on smartphones, the S Pen boasts Air Command, which launches automatically when removing the stylus from the laptop and letting you launch apps quickly.
The device is powered by the 8th generation Intel Core i7 chip which can be paired with up to 16GB DDR4 RAM and a maximum of 512GB storage. It features integrated Intel HD graphics and uses a 13.3-inch full HD display with touch support. There are several connectivity options, such as USB-C, USB 3.0, and HDMI. For security, a fingerprint sensor is also offered.
Notebook 9 2018 edition
Then, there is the 2018 edition of the Samsung Notebook 9, which is more of a rival to Microsoft’s own Surface Laptop. This time, the Samsung model is offered in two different configurations, with 13.3- and 15-inch screen, with specs depending on model.
For example, while both are powered by i7 chips and feature 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD storage, the 15-inch version comes with an Intel HD graphics board and NVIDIA GeForce X150, versus the integrated board only on the smaller model.
There’s no touch display this time, but a fingerprint sensor is still offered, along with the same connectivity options as in the case of the Pen model. The 15-inch notebook also comes with a Thunderbolt 3 port.
All new models will be presented at the CES 2018 show in Las Vegas next month, while sales in Korea begin this month. The other countries and the US will get them in 2018.
