The Galaxy J2 Pro lacks data and Wi-Fi support

Samsung has just announced what could be easily considered the most unexpected smartphone model launching this year: the Galaxy J2 Pro, a device that although comes with advanced features like a powerful camera and Super AMOLED display, lacks Internet connectivity support.

In other words, if you buy the new Galaxy J2 Pro, you’ll be able to do pretty much anything you’re doing right now on your average Android phone, only that you’ll always stay offline.

The device lacks 2G, 3G, LTE, and Wi-Fi support, so there’s no way you’ll connect to the Internet, as Samsung says the Galaxy J2 Pro was developed from the very beginning to be “faithful to basic functions.”

This means you’ll still be able to make phone calls (thank God!) and send messages, but on the other hand, you won’t be allowed to chat with your friends on WhatsApp, check your Facebook wall, or browse the web.

Samsung says this is a phone aimed at students who “need to focus on learning,” but also at senior users who care about data charges. Because students really don’t need the Internet, right?

Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro tech specs

When it comes to the technical specs, the Galaxy J2 Pro does not disappoint (of course, if not taking into account the lack of data and Wi-Fi support).

The device comes with a 5-inch Super AMOLED display and is powered by a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor paired with 1.5GB RAM. It comes with a 2,600 mAh battery and a microSD card slot because you’re going to need some extra space for all those things that you download from the Internet. Oh, wait…

The paradoxically-branded Pro smartphone will go on sale in two different colors, black and gold, in Korea, and will be sold starting at 199,100 won (approximately $186 at today’s exchange rates). There’s no word on whether it could be launched in other markets as well, but this probably depends on how successful it’ll be in South Korea first.
