Samsung’s and LG’s display divisions are expected to showcase their latest products this week at the US Trade Show in San Francisco. The companies’ OLED displays will be the main highlight of the event, and both manufacturers are expected to unveil curved and foldable OLED panels, as well as screens for virtual reality.

Samsung has been using Super AMOLED displays for most of its flagship phones, culminating with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that was released earlier this year.

Now, Samsung Display is attending the SID Display Week in 2016, where it’s expected to showcase the latest display technologies, including a 5.7-inch AMOLED panel with an impressive resolution of 2560 x 1440. It’s highly likely that the display will be incorporated into the manufacturer’s next flagship phone.

Samsung is also expected to showcase a new rollable AMOLED display with a 10-milimeter radius of curvature, 0.3mm profile and weighing only 5 grams, according to KoreaHerald. Samsung is set to showcase futuristic panels, including an organic light-emitting diode display that can be rolled or folded. The technology could be used on tablets or smartphones.

However, Samsung will also introduce larger panels, including 13.3- and 14-inch AMOLED touchscreens for laptops, as well as a reflective display based on hologram technology, which can project 3D-like images in the air. The hologram technology could be used for various purposes, including 3D games.

LG to showcase displays with advanced touch sensors

LG Display is Samsung’s toughest competitor, and the company will showcase large panels for TVs and new touchscreens designed for the mobile market. The new touchscreen panels will incorporate advanced touch sensors that allow users to operate the device even when they’re wearing gloves.

Recently, Samsung has announced its intention to increase OLED production capacity starting with next year while LG Display intends to expand to OLED light panels.

The SID Display Week 2016 edition takes place from May 22 to 27 in San Francisco, California.
