After two Betas and three RC (Release Candidate) versions, the final release of the Salix Live Xfce 14.2 edition is now available for download, allowing users to take the Slackware-based OS for a test drive before installing it.

The Salix Xfce 14.2 GNU/Linux distribution was announced at the end of August 2016, based on the latest Slackware 14.2 operating system and Xfce 4.12 desktop environment, but it was only distributed as installable-only ISO images, which means no Live medium was available for download.

That changes today, as the Salix Live Xfce 14.2 edition was launched, containing all the features that shipped with the Salix Xfce 14.2 flavor, including but not limited to two new in-house built graphical system utilities, namely GTKRepoSetup, a graphical interface for the reposetup CLI tool, and GUEFI, a boot manager for UEFI systems.

"After a long round of testing, Salix Live Xfce 14.2 is released," reads the announcement. "The live environment utilizes our own Salix Live Scripts, which has been forked and improved from the original Slackware Live Scripts. In terms of included software, this Live release mirrors the standard Salix Xfce 14.2 release."

Powered by long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel, includes GCC 5.3

Powered by the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel series, Salix Live Xfce 14.2 comes with GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 5.3.0, GLibc (GNU C Library) 2.23, the latest LLVM/Clang compiler, the eudev device management system, and the latest software versions, including Mozilla Firefox 49.0, LibreOffice 5.2, and all Salix System Tools.

You can download Salix Live Xfce 14.2 right now from our website if you want to take the GNU/Linux distribution for a test drive without installing it on your PC. It is distributed as Live ISO images for both 64- and 32-bit platforms, which can be deployed to either USB flash drives or CD discs. Use the password "one" (without quotes) for sudo access.
