The Salix development team announced the release of the second Beta build of the upcoming Live Edition of the Salix Xfce 14.2 GNU/Linux distribution based on the Slackware 14.2 operating system.

A lot of changes seem to be included in this second Beta milestone of Salix Live Xfce 14.2, which comes hot on the heels of Salix 14.2 Xfce Edition, an installable-only version of the Slackware-based distro. Therefore, Salix Live Xfce 14.2 is here to allow you to use the OS directly from a live, bootable medium, such as USB or CD/DVD disc.

Prominent new features include a brand-new "wait=n" boot parameter for delaying the Live CD, a new install_on_usb.sh script to allow users to install the ISO images on USB flash drives, support for booting on modern, UEFI machines (only the 64-bit ISO), persistent support for USB drives, and persistent Home directory support.

"Live scripts has been changed and further developed to use the native overlay kernel module which is stable," reads the announcement. "Funionfs has problems with newest kernels 4.4.19 and up. Live scripts are different from slackware-live scripts and have become a fork, software developed in-house."

Sli is the Live installer of Salix Live Xfce 14.2

The second Beta pre-release of Salix Live Xfce 14.2 also comes with the Sli Live installer, which allows users to install the operating system on their personal computers after using the live session and deciding it's a keeper. More details about how to perform a new Salix Xfce installation using the Sli Live installer are provided by the development team in the announcement.

In the meantime, we invite you to download the Salix Live Xfce 14.2 Beta 2 64-bit and 32-bit ISO images right now via our website if you want an early taste of what's coming to the Live Edition of Salix Xfce 14.2. However, please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, which means that it might contain some issues and annoyances that will be resolved in the final release.
