Samsung recently released the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in four major markets, the US, Canada, Korea and Puerto Rico, while sales of the flagship continue to grow. A recent report from Korea reveals that the Galaxy S8+ could make up for more than 50% of combined sales.

Sales of the 6.2-inch Galaxy S8+ are predicted to beat those of the 5.8-inch Galaxy S8, thus reflecting customer preference for smartphones with wider displays. Annual sales of both Galaxy S8 models are expected to reach 50.4 million units, while the Galaxy S8+ could take up 53.9% of combined sales, meaning that 27.1 million units of the 6.2-inch smartphone could be sold.

The report mentions that recent sales are keeping up with previous trends, considering that the Galaxy S7 edge and S6 edge accounted for 51.9% and 51.3% of combined sales, showing that customers continue to be more interested in devices with wider displays, for enjoying content in a more comfortable way.

Samsung is facing some supply issues with both models

Another factor for high sales of edge models could be the shape of the display, which is why, this year, Samsung didn’t release a flat variant of the Galaxy S8 and both models feature dual-curved Infinity Displays.

Samsung has focused on the Galaxy S8+ variant more than the standard model, considering that it offers the S8+ in a version with a 128GB data capacity and 6GB of RAM, compared to the 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal memory on the Galaxy S8.

Samsung has been seeing high demand for its recent flagship smartphone, as the company even announced that it’s facing tight supply in certain markets. To solve the issue, Samsung extended the registration period in Korea, from April 24 to April 30. Apparently, the Midnight Black and Orchid Gray color models are among the most popular among consumers. The 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage Galaxy S8+ is also facing supply issues.
