It just happens that I own an iPod shuffle music player and it's just perfect on my skating sessions, but it looks like Apple has quietly discontinued it, along with the iPod nano.

Several people have reported today that they couldn't find the iPod shuffle, or the iPod nano on Apple's website when searching for either of them from various popular search engines like Google, and The Verge talked with an Apple spokesperson who confirmed both models are now officially discontinued.

That's really sad news for music fans from all over the world because both devices were really great and well-designed music players capable of providing hours of audio playback when you needed to take them on-the-go during jogging or any other another outdoor activity, especially the tiny iPod shuffle, which was built to last.

Only iPod touch remains supported

It's disappointing seeing such great products die, but sometimes modern technology wins as people want more from a portable music player, such as fitness challenges and other related functions, and the truth is that these you can buy all sorts of smartwatches and other "smart" fitness bracelets that can do more than play music.

If you still want to buy an iPod, the only supported model appears to be the iPod touch, which Apple confirms for The Verge that it's now available in two flavors, with double the capacity of previous models, with 32GB and 128GB internal storage, respectively, starting at just $199 USD in the U.S..

Apple also said that they removed the iPod touch 16GB and 64GB models from its online store, though it might be possible to find on in retails stores around the globe, and, if you're lucky, you can still purchase an iPod nano or iPod shuffle, but the question remains if you should buy one. What's you're favourite portable pocket player?
