14 DAY TRIAL // With just three months before the official unveiling, a source quoted by SamMobile claims that Samsung will skip the Galaxy Note 6 name and go straight to Galaxy Note 7. The reason for skipping over a generation number could be related to marketing purposes.
According to SamMobile, a high-ranking official at Samsung revealed that the company would be naming the next device in the Note generation, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. It would be the first time Samsung decides to skip over a generation number.
The reason is strictly related to consumer perception; the company wants to associate the number “7” with Samsung’s launch of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. It wishes to avoid the situation in which Galaxy Note 6 would be perceived as an outdated device.
Still, back in June last year, Samsung trademarked the Galaxy Note 6 moniker, which means that it could actually release the device at a later date. But these are just suppositions at this point.
Aside from changing the name to Galaxy Note 7, Samsung thought of another way to determine consumers to associate the upcoming Note device with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. The Korean company intends to bring the dual-curved edges to the upcoming Note phone.
The Galaxy Note 7 could be unveiled in mid-August
Rumors have it that Samsung intends to launch two variants of the Galaxy Note 7, one with either Snapdragon 823 or Exynos 8890 processor and 6GB of RAM. The premium variant will feature USB Type-C and a 12MP rear camera, together with a 4,000 mAh battery and 256GB of storage space.
A possible Lite version will have the same display size but a lower resolution of 1080p, compared to the 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution on the Edge version. The device could also come with an iris scanner. It should have 4GB of RAM and both variants will come with S Pen styluses.
The Galaxy Note 7 is rumored to be released during the week starting August 15, considering that the Note 5 was announced on August 21. One reason why Samsung may speed up the Note 7’s unveiling is related to Apple’s launch of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in September.
